How BowlBrowser works

A ranked discovery experience

BowlBrowser brings together structured catalogue information made available by participating retailers through the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). It presents and ranks relevant results so a person can explore options without treating BowlBrowser as the seller.

The available catalogue is not exhaustive. Retailer participation, data quality, stock and technical availability shape what can appear. A high position means a result matched the signals available to the demo; it is not an endorsement or a claim that the food is objectively best.

How profile inputs shape ranking

Optional profile details, such as species, life stage, size and stated preferences, can bring closer matches forward. The system can only act on fields that exist in both the profile and product data, and not every retailer describes products in the same way.

Missing catalogue details are treated as unknown, not automatically penalised. A product should not be described as failing a criterion simply because the relevant data is absent. Results still require the user to verify the current label and suitability.

Ingredients to avoid: a deliberately narrow rule

If a user explicitly records an ingredient to avoid, the demo may exclude a result only when that ingredient is explicitly present in the available product data. Absence of a mention is not proof that the ingredient, a derivative or cross-contact is absent.

This feature is not an allergy-management tool and does not interpret synonyms, manufacturing controls or clinical risk with veterinary certainty. For a diagnosed allergy or adverse food reaction, use the product manufacturer’s current information. Discuss with your vet.

What affects results, and what does not

• Food ranking uses available catalogue and profile signals described in the interface.
• Pet insurance does not influence food rankings.
• A missing detail is not converted into an unfavourable claim.
• BowlBrowser does not claim that its catalogue covers every retailer or suitable product.
• User feedback can help refine future discovery, but it is not a verified medical outcome or universal product rating.

The retailer remains the seller

When a user chooses an item, checkout is created with or continued through the relevant retailer. That retailer controls the current price, stock, payment, delivery, cancellations, returns and customer service under its own terms.

BowlBrowser does not add a price markup in this demonstration. Catalogue prices can change, so the retailer’s checkout is the final place to verify the amount and order details. BowlBrowser does not fulfil the order or hold itself out as the merchant of record.

Practical privacy boundaries

Use only the pet information needed for discovery and avoid entering veterinary records or sensitive personal details into free-text fields. Account and preference data should be handled according to the service’s presented privacy controls; retailer checkout data is handled by the retailer and its providers under their own terms.

Do not assume a profile is shared with a retailer unless the checkout flow clearly says so. Likewise, information entered at a retailer is not automatically part of a BowlBrowser profile.

Use rankings as a starting point

Before buying, confirm the food is complete or complementary, species and life-stage suitability, ingredients, feeding guidance, pack size, price, availability and seller. Contact the retailer or manufacturer where information conflicts.

For growth, pregnancy, chronic illness, suspected food reactions or material diet change, the ranking cannot replace individual advice. Discuss with your vet. The clearest outcome is informed discovery with responsibility left in the right place.
